Super and Smackdown

After a lack luster "A" show on Monday night, I wondered how the WWE would end the week. ECW delivered a solid show to make us forget about Raw. Now it was time for the only tri brand show in the WWE and to see if Smackdown could lead us into the weekend with something interesting and compelling. Lets begin with Superstars.

The WWE must have heard I didn't care for Raw because Superstars started off with Edges' show "The Cutting Edge". Edge's guest was the high flyer and his opponent at Judgement Day, Jeff Hardy. JR pumped him up and said he wouldnt bet against Hardy. Always listen to JR, he throws in some very interesting things. The chemistry between these two dates back all the way to Summerslam of 1999, Hardys vs E&C, in case you didnt remember. Edge brings up taking Cena out and now the same fate is gonna happen to Hardy. Jeff brings up Armageddon back in December and how he beat Edge for the WWE title. Jeff was very passionate in his interview. They continued to go back and forth. Hardy attacked Edge and hit the twist of fate, TOF, then the Swanton. Segment ended with Hardy holding up the World Title. I was very happy to see these guys start Superstars. Edge and Jeff needed to pump up there match at JD, and this worked perfectly to me. Good start so far!

We come back with a storyline that needs to go away, Santina Marrella tagging with Kelly Kelly vs The Glamazon Beth Phoenix, who actually got a huge pop, and Rosa. Im not a fan of this whole Santina thing, but I do love Beth. She is the best womens wrestler in the WWE. I would love to see her get some real tv time in the ring. The match wasnt to bad. Kelly has gotten better. Santina had a funny moment and got the hot tag. Kelly over Rosa in a very odd but kinda cool win. Cant we go back to the Glamazon detroying the Divas with a funny sidekick in Santino?

ECW time on Superstars. Finlay vs a new looking Zack Ryder. New look new music and new catchphrase, wo wo wo? I dont know what the hell thats about. Ryder can wrestle but Finlay took it to him. Finlay, the only man to use the apron as a weapon. Ryder has potential to be someone in ECW, but not on this night. Good luck kid.

Back from the break, and theres a cool video package of CM Punk. WWE is really pumping him up. The only 2 time winner of MITB. Last year was picture perfect for Punk. We continue with a recap of Smackdown last week. Highlights of Morrison Benjamin, and then the Fatal Four-Way, ending with y2j and Morrison confrontation.

Leading to our main event Y2J vs Morrison. This match had two of the best going right now on Smackdown. Morrison has now switched from an arrogant heel to well an arrogant face. The match started and went back and forth. We get 2 full segments of this match, which was perfect. Y2J had the upper hand coming back from the break. Morrison got momentum going. I dont know how big Morrison can get as a face. Hes a better heel but they needed another face on Smackdown and he fit the bill I guess. Morrison and Jericho had quite a few counters in this match. I love great wrestling and these 2 men provided it. Benjamins music hit towards the end and Morrison took his eye off the ball. CODEBREAKER, and Jericho gets a much needed victory. An awesome way to head towards Smackdown.

Smackdown starts with GM Teddy Long. Mysterio out next. He talks for a few mins about last weeks Fatal 4way. My boy, Jericho out next. He demands a shot at Reys IC title. Jeff Hardy out now. Teddy straightens everything out. We get Hardy vs Y2J and if Jericho wins, its a triple threat match for the world title at JD. Im already excited for the main event.

Mike Knox vs R truth starts the next break. Not much to talk about here. I guess R-truth isnt getting a push any longer. I like the kid too. He has natural charisma but neeedds some work in the ring. Mike Knox, well hes Gene Snizky, and thats not his fault.

At least Smackdown has some solid women performers. McCool vs Gail Kim. I have read on many wrestling sites how people dont like McCool. Well im not on that boat. I like Michelle, plus shes really easy on my eyes. Kim and her had a nice back and forth contest. Kim has some impressive moves. McCool finishes her off with the best womens finisher in the WWE.

Back to back backstage interviews with Hardy followed by Edge and Teddy Long. Again Hardy has passion and says everyone will witness him winning the world title come Judgement Day. Edge is the best complainer in the business right now. He whines but Long has none of that. He makes Edge and Punk for the World Title. Ive heard Punk come out and say he really wants to be a heel. Well the storyline is simple. Edge wants time off. Punk and Edge have fought a few times now since Punk was drafted to Smackdown. Edge could lose to Jeff and then have Punk cash in.

The match between Punk and Edge was decent but ended badly because Edge just said forget it and was counted out. Punk was then attacked by Umaga again. I want to see the Somoan Bulldozer take on Punk at Judgement Day, which was announced later on Smackdown.

The rest of Smackdown until the main event was pretty much a snoozer. An arm wrestling match with a couple of chicks. Ziggler vs The Great Kahli. But then...

The MAIN EVENT. Y2J vs Hardy. Again Jericho proves why hes one of the best going in the WWE. Yes, Im a Jericholic. You have to admit the guy is good. The action was fast paced in and out of the ring. Hardy tried his Whisper in the Wind, but failed. He also failed at an attempt at the Swanton. Edge was on commentary, Rey at ringside. Jericho tossed Hardy over the table at Edge. Edge even tried to distract Jericho, long 2 count for Hardy. This match had alittle bit of everything. Hardy finally found success and won with a TOF followed by a 5 star Swanton Bomb. Smackdown did a great job moving forward with their storyline development. My only problem is that the under card isnt doing much. We have y2j and Rey, Im sure that will happen at Judgement Day. I love the Hardy Edge feud. I just dont see much development anywhere else. With a wild finish though, the WWE offered something to remember heading into the weekend. I just hope Raw took some notes and follows suit. Tell next time.
