Well since i am starting to do a blog for bigbadsportsdaddy.com, i will continue to post them on myspace as well. Last week I posted about greatness and how it is taking for granted. Philadelphia fans should know this more than anyone else. Philadelphia Eagle fans more specifically get to watch a guy who has taken more crap then most of us have in our lifetime. Donovan McNabb has been critized as a choker, an "average qb, and a guy who has been praised to much just because the media wants a black qb to succeed. Donovan has had more twists and turns in philly then a five star roller coaster.
You know you are loved when the fans boo you when you are drafted by the organization. But through it all McNabb has overcome. In this year alone, he has had ultimate highs, week 1 vs stl rams and also week 17 against the rival Dallas Cowboys, and the lowest lows, a tie against the bengals, afterward Donovan said he didnt know there were ties in the NFL. The following week, week 12, he was benched in a 3 point game against baltimore. After kevin kolb stunk up the joint against the ravens defense, Andy Reid had no choice to give McNabb his starting job back. McNabb had one of his best games after that on Thanksgiving night against the Arizona Cardinals. Yes, the same Cardinals, he and the rest of the Eagles face Sunday afternoon for the right to go to the Super Bowl. I have also praised McNabb for his heart, determination, and leadership on and off the field. Donovan had only 1 year with a fantastic, although controversial, Terrell Owens. Even with t.o. he held his own and didnt let him become a major distraction, something no other team or qb has done.
Rush Limbaugh is the man who called him average and hyped more because he is black, after 10 hall of fame type years, 5 trips to the NFC Championship game, and 1 trip to the Superbowl, Im wondering if he has changed his tune. The fans certainly have quite a few times. They love him, hate him, despise him, want him out of town, and now love him again, and thats just this year. They are so fickle, you have one of the best quarterbacks in the past decade, yet you have never embraced him. If you are a fan of the colts or patriots, I could understand why you would keep your qb, Brady and Manning, but if you root for any other NFL team, tell me why you wouldnt want McNabb? I will hear arguements for Matt Ryan and Joe Flacco, because they are so young and have showed alot of potential, but I can shoot those down.
I will ride the McNabb gravy train as long as it goes. If McNabb wins a superbowl, the philly fans will be the first to cheer but if he doesnt, they will be the first to boo and Donovan will be there, take the criticism, and rise above, just like the past decade.
